First Methodist Church Pleasanton was founded in 1857. Rev. John Wesley DeVilbiss began holding services in the open air and in the homes of members. When the first courthouse, made of logs, was built, permission was granted the Methodists to hold meetings in this building. A few years later the first school building was erected and meetings and services were held there. In November 1858, Pleasanton was given its first resident pastor, Rev. Thomas B. Ferguson. Since then, First Methodist Church continued to grow with the completion of the Educational Building in 1957 and our Sanctuary in 1959. Our church continues to be an active presence in our community.
We are a loving, family oriented congregation of about 220 members, ranging from infants to those in their “sunset” years. We have two Sunday school classes for adults. There are active programs for our youth; Children’s Church, Sunshine Kids, Junior and Senior High Youth groups. We have a Ladies Bible Study and Monday Night Couples Bible Study.
We believe in the power of prayer. We “pray continually” for our loved ones, our community and our military.
Visit us and experience the love of Christ within our congregation. Once you do, we think you will want to be part of the vision and vitality, that makes up our church family.
